Art + Energy Transition

An online discussion around the idea of Energy Transition, exploring the huge societal shift from low energy use to our current situation of high and climbing energy use. Where this shift has transformed our lives, the effects on the landscape are dramatic yet often unnoticed.

Led by Gina Glover and Dr Geof Rayner, this discussion considers the role that art might play in reflecting upon and engaging with these issues in ways that science, denying a role either for feeling or aesthetic sensibility, often fails to.

Gina Glover is an artist trained in Fine Art at Chelsea School of Art and in Photography at the University of Westminster. She co-founded Photo Co-Op in 1979 in Wandsworth, which in 1991 became Photofusion Photography Centre, based in Brixton.

Dr Geof Rayner is a health ecologist and former advisor to the Department of Health, European Commission and World Health Organisation.

Gina Glover, Geof Rayner and Jessica Rayner are the authors of The Metabolic Landscape: Perception, Practice and the Energy Transition. Their work addresses the way in which the landscape, and associated processes within, above or below the landscape have been fundamentally altered by our use of energy. Gina has exhibited this work at galleries around the UK and at Fotofest in Texas, US.

This discussion was recorded and edited live online with a small remote audience, to allow viewers to participate live from the safety of their homes.
