Breathing In Art is a new series by Fermynwoods Contemporary Art to support and promote mask wearing whilst celebrating and featuring selected artists. Whilst we’re amid a global pandemic and wearing masks to protect ourselves and others is part of everyday life, we’re inviting artists to design a range of masks that will be available to the public.
The next in this series comes from Fermynwoods Associate Artist Virginie Litzler – a French artist and photographer currently based in Brussels. Her work is concerned with the dialogue between people, spaces and motion, exploring the shift that occurs between seeing a photograph, its constituents and its surroundings.

This is a new photomontage from the series Les Paysages started last year and inspired by the many walks I did and I’m still doing during lockdowns in Belgium.
An horizon, trees, wind, brutal change of weather…
Time observing photographic images from the series reveal an arrangement. In some photomontages it is nearly invisible, playing with our perception and our interpretation. Other times, it is raw and very visible, showing us the artifice of the collage. There are no rules in those landscapes, except that the found archival image is a prelude to building something anew with changes.
This has been made as an homage to change and all it requires to dance with it.
