Fermynwoods Associate Artist Alumni Sophie Herxheimer has had quite a month, beginning with a stint collecting stories with East Northants Council staff about change as part of our Art Work Placement programme, and ending with her drawings on display at Tate Modern
Artist and writer Sophie practices what she calls story collecting. Sitting with a participant, the drawing is a reflection of listening to the story being told. She finds that the ink reflects the fluidity and immediacy of the conversation and the resulting work is filled with the energy of the encounter.
The drawings shown at Tate Modern focused on experiences of home and migration and were collected from across the country, including at Fermyn Woods. The show was in partnership with Wasafiri Magazine, which has included some of the drawings in their latest issue.
